Melbourne can be a Winter Boating Wonderland, but you need to be prepared to rug up and get out on the water at short notice. Ok, so the physical temperature may be low, which often makes us fickle humans second-guess the idea of getting out on the water, but you might be surprised how nice it is once your out there. Generally in Winter the weather is more stable, which means less wind and we often those lovely sunny days with no wind at all. The marinas all have vacant berths, offering off peak pricing if you are looking for a overnighter. Enjoy dining at the pubs and restuarants with a dusty red in front of an open fire at your favorite baycation destination (Queenscliff springs to mind) or take the kids out for the day this school holidays for a winter squidding mission. Maybe a cruise up the Yarra to see the city lights on your way home from Docklands after the footy. (Go Dogs) No matter what sort of boating you enjoy Melbourne is a Winter Boating Wonderland, you just have to take the plunge and make it happen.
